"The claims of Bulgaria to Macedonia are based on several considerations, the most important of which is that the bulk of the people in Macedonia call themselves Bulgarians; that they speak the Bulgarian language; that they cherish the Bulgarian literature and sing Bulgarian songs; that they wear Bulgarian costumes; that they maintain Bulgarian schools and acknowledge the Bulgarian church, in spite of all sufferings and persecutions on the part of the Greeks and Turks; and lastly because they are earnestly hoping and working in common with all Bulgarians for the realization of their greatest ofall national ideals — which finds its highest exemplification in the Treaty of St. Stephano—a great, free and united Bulgaria."

Автор: Станислав Иванов Шумков (1867-1919) е български общественик, учен и писател, деец на българската емиграция в Северна Америка. Завършва докторантура по философия и исторически науки в Пенсилванския университет. В САЩ редактира вестник "Македония" и издава вестник "Macedonian herald" и списанието "Нов Свят". Изнася беседи и сказки на тема Македония и е приет на аудиенция от президента Теодор Рузвелт и държавния секретар Джон Милтън Хей. През 1909 г. се завръща в България и работи като кореспондент на британския ежедневник "Daily Telegraph". Станислав Шумков е син на видния български възрожденец от с. Цер Иван Божинов Шумков.
